I respect your positions because you will usually back those up with something of substance, whether I agree with them or not. So tell me straight, do you think its a great idea to have a guy who is a notorious disruptor at the line and in the backfield drop into coverage? Because I absolutely think its a terrible idea. There is ZERO amount of footage that shows Bain doing this in a meaningful game. White Tiger is right (from what I can find and tell) that there were times in practice, Bain ran drills having him drop out...but never in a game I can find. He was used as the great disruptor and he exceled at that. Now I get the argument (and its a good one) that its misdirection, but again, why do I want my first round guy that is going to be paid to get to the QB dropping into pass coverage? Why? Help me make it make sense.People make too much of the Bucs’ edge rushers dropping in coverage.
Lol, the OLB coverage thing is sort of the low hanging fruit of Bowles bashing. Partially based in reality, partially in frustration.
Zone blits, overloads, drop outs and sim pressures are common packages for all defenses, not just Bowles lmao. Part of many succesful defenses. None of those defense are expecting OLB to cover a player downfield or for an extended period. The drop is misdirection for the pressure to get there. if it works no one say anything (Bowles) or they praise the DC as a genius (not Bowles). It doesn't work the DC is the goat (small "g"), so its just venting for the "real fans" who dont "accept mediocrity" . .. or at least who have not for the last four years!
Bain should not be dropping into coverage. Saved you time.

To answer directly, no. He should be full speed ahead all the time and hopefully that works well enough. That said, even Myles Garrett stunts, delays and yes drops. Because the point is not the coverage it confusing the line. So, its not hard to imagine Bain's use as a rare dropper
Mike MacDonald just won a Super Bowl with the "glitch blitz" lol. Thats two . . . 2 . . interior defensive lineman dropping into passing lanes. That blitz is set up by vanilla four man rushes, but those have to get home for it to work well
The Patriots use the same edge rusher drop outs as Bowles.
That said, because its all about deception if you can just rush 4 with some success you have the foundation to blitz occasionally. Bowles doesnt do that very often. Won a SB with that, but that is not his nor

Your passive aggressive shots are noted
I guess we should all celebrate the mediocre product we’ve been served the past 3 years because, after all, it could be worse right?!
Lighten up, Francis
As usual, you are defending a RESPONSE to your hilariously insecure troll. Here it is:
God bless the small portion of this fan base that actually wants to see greatness, and refuses to settle and celebrate .500 ball clubs.
Fans dont control the team???? Supporting a team doesn't make people INFERIOR to you, lmfao, and it certainly does not mean they dont want to see the team be great, or that they are settling (they can't do anything about the roster, you goof) or that they are asking you to celebrate??? It just mean they are supporters of the team. Those same fans were thrilled when Brady was here. Thrilled when Arians joined. etc. They just understand that the team is the team.
IF YOU CHOOSE (and it was your choice) to post a public pronouncement of your superiority (I am part of the "small portion of this fan base" that is great lol) . . . THEN you deserve to be mocked because its an UNNECESSARY super insecure, chest thumping troll. Literally trying to put down others (the large portion of the fan base ? lol) as a way to prop yourself up as the "small portion" of the fan base that demand GREATNESS?
W . . T. . . H?
Whatever you say, Vin.
"So, if Bain was the standout rookie early in practice, it was second-round pick Josiah Trotter who stole the show in the latter stages. After a Monday practice that saw him tally three tackles for loss, he got another one Tuesday night in 11-on-11s. And he let the offense know about it. The play happened just after the first scuffle of camp broke out, and Trotter was clearly feeding off the chippiness. He went crazy, talking trash to the Bucs offensive line and drawing a response from right guard Cody Mauch."
The oline is my biggest concern on offense. No one on our oline played well on an individual basis last year. Everyone talks highly about their 2024 season, but that was now 2 years ago. Wirfs is our best, but is he still the dominant force he once was? He’s been fighting injuries, and when on the field he hasn’t been as shut down as in the past. All consistently got beat in pass protection last year. And they didn’t have nearly as much success opening holes for the running game.
We can all hope that this unit is a top 5 unit, but I’d say right now they are middle of the pack at best.

Yup the OL still looks like a concern and Licht needed to bring in more competition and depth but the Bucs hand cuffed themselves by having a very odd free agent period leading into the draft. Bucs spent a lot of money on re upping Otton and KG on offense which means they couldn't allocate anymore for OL. I mean Feeney and Skule are just fringe backups and not moving the needle.
I still think that Schrauth and Klein are going to step up as backup interior OL and help alleviate depth woes along with Chuk at tackle. Feeney is okay to have on the roster as your 7th/8th OL. But not so much if he is the primary backup to Bredeson who is himself a borderline backup fringe starter himself. Unfortunately only Schrauth is the only one I am confident that can step in and play as a starter and not miss a beat at LG. Klein might still be learning the ropes at center and needs another season and Chuk is still raw but he did play some meaningful snaps as a starter last season.

uh oh . . . .
"Mayfield throws to Bucky to the right and he’s met immediately by Bain. Pass broken up."

Dude can do it all. And he will do it all without any Nancy distractions.
With Bain's ability to attack the football he is going to be a weapon. Along with Roberts and Kancey the Bucs can have them as stand up rushers or hand in the dirt between the three of them to really confuse offenses via a nascar package on third and longs.
But that secondary on the boundary has to hold up because if they fail to squeeze that sideline or drop into their zone properly it causes issues for the safeties and LBs. Bucs definitely have become bigger along the DL and ILB but the key is the CBs have to play to their spots for fire zone blitzes to work properly.
this is great to read
David Walker, the second-year edge rusher, has truly been the star of Bucs training camp – and it hasn’t even been close.
Walker had at least one sack for the seventh straight practice in a row and is easily leading the defense in this category. He had two would-be sacks today, but on his second – and final – sack of Thursday’s practice, he literally had a strip-sack, and the fumble recovery to boot. Walker is quickly stating his case for OLB3 behind Yaya Diaby and Rueben Bain Jr.
WTF does this even mean? Because he broke a pass play up in training camp now its ok for him to be dropped into coverage? Ok, sure.So tell me straight, do you think its a great idea to have a guy who is a notorious disruptor at the line and in the backfield drop into coverage? This is good news but I will reserve giddiness to when the games count. The team needs Walker to play up to his potential.this is great to read
