This is a terrible “test”
Just because a players “starts” for us (a .500 team) doesn’t equal to a player who “starts” for a perrenial contender in the Eagles.
How many bonafide stats has Licht drafted. High tier players on our roster, right now. I only count 1 and that’s Tristan Wirfs. Our second best player might very well be our kicker.
our roster is very void of high caliber players.
Or it could be devoid of properly coached players. If only we knew how Bowles did in the past.
It is hard to tell what the issue is. Either Bowles sucks, Licht sucks, or they both suck. Given the fact that Licht was able to get a team to the Super Bowl with a different coach and Bowles has always sucked as a head coach I lean towards Bowles sucks.
Before Brady Licht had a losing record with 3 different head coaches. It’s a 4th coach’s fault?
And Bowles went 8-9 with Brady. Interesting.
We have never drafted a franchise qb.
nor a franchise edge rusher
tom Brady. Baker. Simeon rice. JPP.
considering licht & bowles futures are in serious doubt should we be in win now mode?
swing for Crosby or Dexter Lawrence. Either would help the defense tremendously.
Lawrence would be much cheaper obviously. Second and an extension?
Again, exactly right. The Bowles issue is not a Licht issue. Bowles would suck with the Seattle team. Bowles would suck with New England's team. Bowles' reputation as a good DC is the only thing that is remotely accurate about him. Sooner or later, the Glazers will realize that - if they haven't already. It is hard to tell what the issue is. So why was the season over in October when Arians was HC?
"first NFL quarterback to throw 30+ touchdowns and 30 interceptions in a single season."
So it’s Licht’s fault. You admit it.,
youre silly

Silly was drafting that idiot QB instead of taking Philly’s offer.
If memory serves me correct, Beckwith was on his way to being a productive starter.....then the offseason happened, he was in that car accident that basically wrecked his ankle/foot, and he never recovered and was out of the NFL a season to a season and a half later. That was your one player and he showed flashes of being productive before all that happened to him.
yeah unfortunate but how i view draft picks is...."would you make the same pick again 5 years later"
i think in Evans, Godwin, Vea, Wirfs, AWJ case...we all agree...hell yeah
i think in Beckwith's case...you'd suggest 1 year was not worth it for a 3rd round pick

thanks for adding the "!" to my point.
There was no way the Buccaneers were passing on Winston.
He didnt live up to the HYPE but the hype was very real so it put more people in the seats (2014 one of the lowest attendance seasons), got the Bucs back on primetime television and local television ratings went way up. The Winston Bucs jersey was #2 in NFL sales the moment he was drafted and he was always near the top of merchandise sales.
Even his last season was "electric" throwing for 5000 yards and thirty touchdowns, but also 30 INTs.
Not everything in NFL football is about winning on the field, although the Bucs certainly hoped to win with him. His celebrity status, particularly in FL, was a buffer though.
I will add re wINsTon...while Licht drafted him, I believe that wINsTon was Lovie's guy. Could it be that Smith, being a black HC, wanted a black QB? Who knows? At that time, I pounded the table that Mariota was a better choice because I felt he had much better character than wINsTon, and he would be a better QB given the run/pass option ability. Turns out he wasn't much better or worse than wINsTon. JC1500 makes a good point that the Eagles wanted Mariota and put together a package that the Bucs probably should have taken, BUT, we all know hindsight is 20/20. It's all conjecture at this point.

You never had a point.
Licht has had some good off-seasons and a lot of bad ones too. I think he's maybe in the better half of the gms out there as you can do far worse but I also think you can take better advantage of this teams location and tax situation. You have to take what's worked in this town and copy it. We usually have a decent player or two to build around and that is part of what attracts more players. Like how it did with Brady.
Problem with Licht is he's maybe too consistent with how he does things. He doesn't take the necessary risks maybe to take the teams we have to the next level. We are bubble playoff team but while the potential is usually a little better than that the bottom is there too. They can go on runs of really bad football and that is because of variety of reasons but it also lays on the gm to not hit on the players. Why I said I'd be ok if we got rid of licht if it meant we got rid of Bowles.
Another negative and you don't know truly if this is his fault about Licht is he's been connected to the average to below average imo Todd bowles. If he maybe had a better hc he'd be more in the positive aisle to maybe one of the top gms. The way they've been able to manage some contracts and getting extra money to spend at times is good but it ends up being fools gold because they don't use it correctly. Could make that argument about a lot of things actually. In the end I think we can have better.
Let’s be clear about a few things. One, Winston was never a problem. He was put in a “risk it or biscuit” situation where he was not set up to win. Two, if he had stayed and they had hired anyone from the Shanahan tree, someone who understands how to run an NFL offense, we are counting banners.
When Brady came here, he was the OC. And we’ve been chasing Amy ever since. It’s weird…
I believe that wINsTon was Lovie's guy.
Lovie 1000% wanted Winston. He traveled to Alabama to meet Winston's family. Lovie tells a funny story about Winston's family asking him if he follows the NBA, a reference to the team that took Sam Bowie over Jordan lol.
Licht wanted him too and. BADLY. Can you imagine being a GM of a FLORIDA NFL team who passed on a QB like Winston who then went on to win a Super Bowl? The easier and safer move for Licht was always to take Winston . . especially because the Glazers and the HC really wanted him TOO.
The Glazers wanted him badly too. Thats why they did all the PI investigations etc. We are talking about the mercurial QB from FLORIDA State . . (read again: FLORIDA) . . .who won the Heisman and a National Championship.
The Bucs were NEVER . . repeat NEVER . . going to take an Oregon QB perceived as a good fit for Chip Kelly's quirky system OVER the FLORIDA State QB with the "rocket arm" and "most prepared for the NFL college QB" who was known for DRAMATIC games.
They were NEVER going to trade the pick for the same reason.
People only say that stuff in HINDSIGHT. In real time though there was no way it was anyone but Winston because he had the POTENTIAL to be a winner, he was very polarizing (lots of sports talk about him and the RB loaded with Gator Goons trashing him and Noles fans supporting him) and very popular with at least half of Florida and he was EXCITING. I think the 2019 season was maybe one of the most covered by the media. 5000 yards 30ish TDs but alos 30ish INTs. Up and down, drama.
Like I said, top jersey sales, ticket sales up, national and LOCAL coverage way up. The Bucs fight for RELEVANCE. Winston HYPE made an irrelevant 2014 Bucs team suddenly very relevant . . before Winston even played a snap.

Winston was 100% a program. He's a low character, personable, flamboyant gun slinger that didn't understand how to be successful at the next level.
Mariota is also a bust (career backup like Winston) but at least he's a man of high character and not a goofball eating Ws
