@bucsbits have you heard every coach talk about the guys they’ve just drafted? They all say they got the guy they wanted. They have to be all in. We will see how it works out. I mocked him to the Bucs in the 4th in one of my drafts. And obviously I did it because I hoped he’d turn into something for us.

Yes, I get your point.  I am not saying anything other than he was 100% Bowles pick and ylu have Devin White in the Bowles tenure as an obvious parallel.

If we think we have the developers and scheme to achieve his full potential then we picked the right guy.

Todd did a bang up job of developing Devin White.

I feel extremely confident.

White was not developable, so there is that.

Name the players that Todd has developed.

Well, I guess that means you agree that White was not developable for his own INTERNAL reason?

Sure. I agree.

Now, the list?

Depends on what you mean by develop but you could start with White.  Bowles is the ONLY coach to get him to play at an All-Pro level

If the metric for "develop" is sustained success (ie White was obviously a failure long term) then AWJ, Davis, Dean, Diaby, Kancey (if healthy 7.5 sacks), Vea, all young guys drafted and going on to solid careers so far. McCollum was awful last year but hes trying to be a #1 shut down corner as a 5th round pick? Too early to say but Parrish seems to be doing well.

He got a lot out of Mike Edwards and SMB. Hell, even Whitehead I. He even got a lot out of guys like Gholston and Hall. LVD credits him with expanding his knowledge of the game, the key to his late success. Shaq Barrett thrived under him.

Again, sort of depends on what one means by the word "develop" because where is the line between talent and development? The middle group here ("guys drafted and going on to solid careers so far") is maybe the best metric, but even there some is Bowles (or position coaches) and some is just the players.

The discussion about Trotter is as much theory versus reality or maybe better "Best Drafting Practices versus Common Drafting Practices."

If Trotter fails or, in this hypothetical, J-Rod is a perennial All-Pro (who wasn't even available to be picked by the Bucs lol) the Red Board "it told you so" posts will be out and the Red Board ire will be directed at Licht and/or Bowles. Its really the Glazers though because you don't keep Bowles on after last season and NOT give him what he thinks the Bucs needs to succeed. That would be illogical, right? Your argument for keeping him WAS the absence of tools to run the D. So, a big PART OF THAT DECISION to keep Bowles is also drafting Trotter over another LB.

If Trotter succeeds the same critiques will still exist.  "White was NEVER a good player" even though he was an All-Pro in 2020. Trotter might be a little different because he sounds like a completely different person than White (and to be fair White might be the biggest ass on the planet), but we will see. Every season many posters seem to pick their horses and then support accordingly. Hall was at times a solid contributor to the Bucsbut he was NEVER even close to his spot in the draft (dictated by a need for picks) . . that makes him a "bust" on the Red Board

In any event, the draft people here are posting picks by a formula or ideal, something like BPA, but that isnt reality because all teams have internal reasons for their picks that range from need to opportunity cost etc.  Not that either is right or wrong, they are just DIFFERENT

This is 100% accurate. Trotter’s approach to the game is why he was drafted instead of others whom red board GMs see as better.

Trotter will need to learn to cover.

“Sheeeeeeeit! We drafted Bain for that”

- Todd Bowles

This is one of the reasons why I come to the Red Board. I usually get a good chuckle. Thanks, Man Who Seeks Ass.

I do agree with that.  Trotter is a student of the game like Bain and Scott as all three are hardcore film junkies.

If you see the defense as not having an edge then this three picks do make sense. One oof the defensive coaches yesterday on Trotter

“We’re hoping that it’s a mindset, a mindset for us to get back to being a physical front,” Caldwell replied. “And he’s that type of player. He’s a guy that can come downhill use his hands and he’s a physical presence inside.”

Obviously same thing on Bain and Scott and even Gainwell.  This was ST coach on Gainwell last season:

“Kenny Gainwell will fight me about being on special teams, ok,” Smith said, adding that Gainwell would bark in his Pittsburgh office if he lost a special teams assignment.

“He’s back there returning punts today if you watch any of today’s practice. The kid can do a lot of things. He’s good on a lot of things. He’s a tireless worker. He’s a great person and a great player, and he and I have become close over the years and I’ll do anything in the world for him.”

Do you mean you were confused about Trask being the "winner of preseason" or that Coen confused you into believing White was RB1 . . .  through WK14? ROFLMAO

“We want to obviously get guys involved,” offensive coordinator Liam Coen said. “But Rachaad is the guy. He’s going to start the game and he’s going to keep playing, and Bucky (Irving) will get his specific stuff and be able to play. And when Sean (Tucker) needs to go in there and give those guys a blow, he’ll do a great job as well.

“Ultimately, man, it’s Rachaad’s show,” Coen said.

Biggs, what is more surprising? You had a football post in there? Or, you mostly omitted your usual conflicted homoeroticism?

LOL!

That was a good one, bud.

LVD credits him with expanding his knowledge of the game, the key to his late success.

That's nice of LVD to say that, despite the fact that most of his best seasons were prior to Todd.

I find it interesting that you mention Dean in here.

You were the most vocal on here about him essentially never being good unless it was contract time (which was obviously false, but a cute narrative that many casuals echoed).

And, I also find it interesting that on top of Dean, you include Davis.

Especially when you consider the fact they had to call out Bowles on more than one occasion for not utilizing them properly. And, after Davis leaves, he has arguably his best set of consecutive seasons.

I guess its fair to credit him with AWJ, but outside of him, nothing noteworthy.

If you understand Bowles’s defense, and you have the healthy version of the players that are currently on our team, you can understand how this defense will be measures better than last year.

It’s fun to shitmouth the head coach or to say we aren’t contenders but, this defense will be different.

Yep.  Our offensive plan this year will be similar but different.  Most behind the scenes feel like Grizz was the real brains behind the success of our offense last season.  I expect we turn it up a notch this year.

Ladies and gentlemen, Devin Culp...

Lolz @ Grizz, Culp, and the leghumpers.
