I think most other factors being roughly equal aren't teams going to go with the guy on the team already? Maybe not, but hard to imagine the Bucs drafting a TE this offseason. If they did maybe in addition to Otton and get rid of the other two? Maybe a FA?

That would put him in the top 15 AAV among Edge rushers, which obviously he isn't. Not sure that can be justified.

I think many GMs, including Licht, do this self-serving approach disguised as "his guys".
Otton had no business being resigned.
Licht also will cut players if they don't perform too, so there's a clear divergence of cutting bait early and rewarding those who you keep.

If the consensus here is correct (he's a solid #2) then what is a "solid #2" actually worth in a forward looking contract?

So, Josh Q is saying the the comparable for Diaby today (not after a 15 sack season in 2026) is probably $25 million. 3 for $75 is what he hypothesizes Diaby gets NOW as an extension.
He even says that an average season in 2026 makes it $27 next season because the cap goes up. If he gets 10 sacks then $30 etc
Overpaying for average players is how you stay in purgatory.

Diaby is definitely in the top 25 club or right at the door step if you look at the totality of his work since coming into the league and relative to his age group. If sacks was the only measure a lot of edge rushers would not be re signed and would hit the open market. A great example is the Seahawks gave Hall an extension and he has only 10 total career sacks since coming into the league in 2023. Diaby also came into the league 2023 and he has 19 sacks which is double what Hall has produced so far. And Diaby has far more pressures if I recall compared to Hall.
Seahawks handed Hall this off season a 3 year $42 million contract.

Reality is most edge rushers even in the top 25 or even top 30 do not hit the FA market.
If the Bucs want Diaby back he is not hitting the market.
The challenge with Diaby is to determine is he is a 1 or a 2? If he is a 2 he is still going get paid maybe by the Bucs FO or by soome other team. I think Diaby is a clear 2 and the Bucs can afford to pay him as a 2 since you have rookie contracts of Bain and Walker on the books. Kind of like how the Bucs can justify giving Gainwell all that money when they have Irving Jr on that rookie contract.
