Of course the Red Board is the place for the fans to express their opinions, favorable or unfavorable, but there's a point where I just have to laugh when somebody comes across like they think they know it all. You don't have to be on the Jason Licht fan bus. But come on. He's a "fool" now? You don't build credibility for your opinions like that. Try feeding your statements into Chat GPT and maybe it can help you out with the wording. It’s always why your “in his lap” argument, to denigrate making the obvious pick, has always been poor. Sure, players fall in every GM’s lap. But they get the credit when they make pick, just like they get the blame when they don’t make the obvious pick and reach for a lesser player.
It’s happened before and it will likely continue to happen.
Doesn't change the fact that Licht has been extremely fortunate with players falling to him... But yes the fool can still find ways to mess it up.
He did this day 2. These picks suck
Lol fuck off
Option 1 — Firm but diplomatic While it’s true that Licht has benefited from several talented players unexpectedly falling to him, it’s also fair to acknowledge that he has still found ways to complicate situations that should have been straightforward.
Option 2 — More neutral and measured Although Licht has certainly been fortunate with the way certain players have fallen into place, there remain instances where his decision‑making has introduced unnecessary challenges.
Option 3 — Direct but professional Licht has undeniably enjoyed some good fortune with players landing in his lap, yet he has still managed at times to create issues that could have been avoided.
Lol fuck off
People are funny. Flipping out for reaching for a sixth round pick. Everyone on this board and so God damn pessimistic.
Consensus around the league is the Bucs had one of the better drafts. Let's re visita on 3 years before we jump to conclusions.
I expect common sense unless he has a proven track record on these weird reaches.
For every Marpet this is 3 Aguayo picks.
You don't trade up for a player that could go 40+ picks later that isn't BPA, isn't the best TE, and isn't going to unseat the TE3 on the depth chart.
This pick was like me drunken betting the last 20 bucks I have when I started with 100.
It's a god awful pick in every imaginable way.
I expect more from my GM... Just because it's late doesn't mean you forget how to draft or how value works

How would you grade the 2023 draft?
I think it really depends on what Kancey can do this year. If he breaks out like we think he CAN it could go all the way up to a B or even B+. First three rounds I would say were hits. 5th Round to 6th round are always going to be crap shoots IMO. Hit rate there are so low so cant expect much each year. Right now I would go C. If Kancey has a breakout year ( which If healthy is really a possibility) and having some more edge pieces will take some pressure off Diabiy it could turn out well.
1st- Kancey- Clearly has talent but injuries make it hard to judge.
2st- Mauch- Good solid starter who improved a ton from year 1-2. Last year unfortunate injury.
3rd- Diaby- Good solid starter
5th-Dennis- Not starter caliber but a fine depth piece.
5th- Durahm- not a good player
6th- Hayes- not a starter decent depth and ST player
6th- Palmer- Had potential but crowded WR room
6th - Ramirez- Not good.

I would only disagree on Kancey and your overall grade. Being on the field is part of the deal, and the guy has never played a full season in three years. He only has 11.5 sacks to show for those three seasons.
You said it takes three years to grade the draft. It's been three years for Kancey. At some point, the dude needs to make an impact. I wouldn't give that draft any higher than a C.

I wouldn't argue with that. If Kancey stays healthy and has a big year- would you bump that grade?

Absolutely. But the first round pick has to produce more than he has in three seasons.
But a salient point here is most people have that draft a C after draft weekend. It’s three years later, and it’s still a C.
If Licht had gone Bain, Hill, Pregnon, & Scott as I would have preferred, he would have had 4 out of the top 29/100 of Matt Miller's best values in the draft.
But alas...

Would've been such a good haul.

Yup would have loved that or swap Allen for Hill. A+ draft

Solid picks considering this was weaker draft talent wise.

To be fair to Licht, he did have 3 out with the top 44/100 when you factor in Hurst. Still pretty good. But it could have been so much better.
For those wondering, Trotter is nowhere on the list.

I thought Hurst was a consensus 4th round grade?

3 serviceable players when healthy. For 2nd and 3rd rounders that's excellent.
Kancey can't stay healthy. He's essentially a bust THUS FAR but if he finishes out his contract productive and healthy (big if) that changes the consensus.

Miller's list is based on off of his personal board, not the consensus.
Lord yes. Exactly the point of the whole draft discussion. If Licht had gone Bain, Hill, Pregnon, & Scott as I would have preferred, he would have had 4 out of the top 29/100 of Matt Miller's best values in the draft.
